(855) 314-7301Narcotics Anonymous is a nonprofit fellowship of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem. Members are recovering addicts who meet regularly to help each other stay clean. NA is a program of complete abstinence from all drugs. There is only one requirement for membership: the desire to stop using. There are no dues or fees for NA membership — the fellowship is entirely self-supporting through voluntary contributions.
NA was founded in 1953 and has grown to become one of the largest recovery fellowships in the world, with meetings in cities across the United States and internationally. The program is based on the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous, but NA's distinctive contribution is its inclusive approach: NA is for addicts of all kinds, regardless of which specific substance was their primary problem. The fellowship recognizes addiction as a disease, and recovery as a process that addresses the whole person, not just their relationship with one drug.
Different meeting formats serve different needs. Open meetings welcome anyone interested in learning about NA, including family members, friends, and helping professionals. Closed meetings are reserved for addicts and those who think they may have a problem with drugs. Specialty meetings — step study, basic text study, speaker, women's, men's, LGBTQ+, and others — offer focused approaches that complement regular discussion meetings. Whatever format speaks to you, the goal is the same: freedom from active addiction through the support of others who have walked the same path.
